    Rockwell Collins FLL Alliance Rules
    December 15, 2007

Don't stress about the alliances - they're just for fun! They are simply a chance for teams to meet other FLL participants, interact with other teams at the event and Have Fun! They will take place after all other competition is completed - while the scores are being tallied to determine the trophy winners.

    1. The alliances for the Cedar Rapids Tournament are formed as follows:
      1. Each 3 or 4 team alliance is selected by random draw. The alliance assignments will be posted at 10:50 & 3:50 by the gymnasium doors. Each competition table will also have the list of teams in the alliance that will be using that table. The alliance number is the table number: 1A, 1B, 2A, ...
      2. Two students will represent their team in the alliance and run their robot at the table. Special stickers are provided to identify these 2 team members. Only the two team members from each team are allowed at the table during the alliance competition - NO ADULTS or other team members.
      3. Each team must complete the self rating form (supplied in your packet) and bring it to the alliance table. Each mission should be rated (0-10) for how well their robot can do that mission. For example: 5 if it works about half of the time, 9 if it works well practically every time, or 0 if no attempt can be made. Each team in the alliance can then see the capabilities of the other teams in their alliance.
      4. The alliance will have 20 min. at their competition table for organization and practice. A planning sheet will be provided to help them decide which team will do each mission & in what order. The table referees will provide guidance and assistance as requested.
      5. The alliance will then have one 3 min. scoring run.
    2. Each team in a 4 team alliance should attempt 3 missions or as many as they can (but not more than 3 per team). For a 3 team alliance, each team should attempt 4 missions. Missions that have multiple parts may be split between teams. The teams should work together to complete as many missions as possible. The alliance should tell the score keeper which mission they will not attempt and it will not be scored.
    3. Each team may bring only one robot and its attachments. Only one robot may be running on the table at any given time.
    4. All table rules and scoring apply, except:
      1. Run time is 3 minutes (instead of 2 ½).
      2. The Robot may be picked up without penalty.
      3. The 2 alliances at each field will run at the same time.
      4. No bonus for being 1st to deploy their solar panel on the satellite.
      5. No "Fairness Bonus" since either RCX or NXT Robots may be used.
    5. First and second place awards will be given on the basis of total points. These awards are independent of all other awards.
