    Rockwell Collins FLL Tournament Guidlines

Due to the popularity of the LEGO program, Rockwell Collins has set the following guidelines for the Rockwell Collins tournament this year:

    Tournament Guidelines:

  • Only one team per school will be allowed to participate in the tournament.
  • If your school participated in LEGO League in any previous year ('01 - '06) you are considered a returning team and will be funded accordingly.
  • Preferences will be given to teams who are within 100 miles of one of our Rockwell Collins facilities in Iowa.
  • Ten percent of our total teams may be home school teams-therefore we will take up to 5 home school teams this year.
  • Teams must have at least 6 members to compete at the tournament and a maximum of 10.
  • Each team must have a coach that is a school employee or a parent from an accredited home school association. Rockwell Collins will help provide the mentors for each team.
  • All team practices must take place in a school or at the home of one member of a home school team.
  • Space for teams is limited and is on a first come first serve basis.
  • Funding Guidelines:
  • This year, Rockwell Collins will provide $325 for up to 32 returning teams and $650 for the first 12 new teams. Once 44 teams are signed up, 4 additional teams may participate in the tournament, but WILL NOT be supported financially by Rockwell Collins. The funds will be sent directly to the participating schools (not to individual teachers) or to the home school coach when the registration with Rockwell Collins is complete.
  • Registration Guidelines:
  • FIRST LEGO League (FLL) registration begins Tuesday, May 1, 2007 at noon EST. Coaches need to register their team and pay for their kit by going to: http://www.usfirst.org. Some of you may recall there has been a shortage of kits in previous years, so you are encouraged to register and order your kit as close to May 1 as possible. FLL registration closes in September, or when materials run out.
  • The FLL Team registration fee is $200 and is non-refundable.
  • The Field Set Up Kit is $65, non-refundable.
  • New teams will also need to purchase an FLL Robot Set - Mindstorms NXT for $325. These sets include everything your team needs to build and program the robot. Returning teams that want the new NXT set must purchase it as part of registration. Teams may still use the Mindstorms RCX Robot Set instead.
  • After receiving your email confirmation from FLL, send a copy to Melanie Richert at mlricher@rockwellcollins.com along with your team information, your coach's name with email & phone number, and information on any mentors that are planning to help. Indicate if you are a new or returning team. This will register you for the Rockwell-Collins tournament.
  • The funds from Rockwell Collins beyond registration costs are intended to cover additional expenses associated with LEGO League (upgrade to NXT robot, batteries, replacement parts, table materials, etc).
